General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM)

General Nursing Midwifery, or GNM, is a three-and-a-half-year diploma programme in nursing. Students who want to pursue a GNM diploma can do so after completing the Science stream of their class 12 test. The three-year and half-year programme includes a six-month internship requirement. The GNM diploma degree is one of the types of courses that can be used as a stepping stone toward a career in nursing. Graduates of the GNM diploma programme can begin their careers in government or private hospitals and clinics.

GNM Nursing Eligibility Criteria

  • Should have passed class 12 with English and must have secure a minimum of 40 percent in aggregate in the qualifying examination and English separately from any recognized board State Open School recognized Candidates are also eligible for State Open School recognized by the State Government and National Institute of Open School (NIOS) recognized by Central Government. However, candidates with Science stream will be preferred
  • Should have passed class 12 with English securing 40 percent in aggregate in vocational ANM course from any Institute recognized by the Indian Nursing council
  • Should have passed class 12 with English securing 40 percent in aggregate in Vocational Stream-Health care Science from a recognized CBSE board/Centre
  • Should be a Registered ANM with qualifying mark

GNM Admission Process

  • GNM course admissions are chiefly offered through the result score of various state level entrance exams. GNM Admission Process 2020 and 2021 might be affected a bit due to the impact of Coronavirus.
  • Note: Students can also pursue GNM Distance Learning course from IGNOU New Delhi.
  • Candidates need to have completed Class 12th in order to appear for GNM exams. Those who are still in Class 12th cannot apply for GNM admission.
  • Students need to fill the application form and deposit the admission fees. If their score meets the criterion of the college they are planning for, they will be given direct admission.
