B.Tech programme is the gateway to a career in engineering with a duration of four years.

Eligibility criteria for B.Tech course may differ from college to college. However, the basic eligibility criteria for B.Tech is as follows. The candidates:

  • Must have passed Class 12 with minimum 60% aggregate from a recognised board with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as core subjects (the pass percentage may vary in different colleges).
  • Admission is based on merit, written exam, Group Discussion or Personal Interview and it varies from college to college.

How affordable is studying B.Tech in India?

Based on the below pie chart, it can be estimated that pursuing B.Tech in India is a bit expensive as approximately 43% of the colleges have course/annual fees ranging from Rs 2-3 lakh. Some of these colleges are IIT Dhanbad; IIT Bhubaneswar, CIT Coimbatore; The National Institute of Engineering, Mysore; Parul University, Vadodara, etc.

The fees of around 10% colleges is more than Rs 5 lakh. Some of these colleges are IIT Bombay; IIT Madras; School of Engineering, MIT ADTU, Pune; School of Petroleum Technology, Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University, Gandhinagar and so on.

Approximately 27% B.Tech colleges have a moderately expensive fee structure that ranges between Rs 3-5 lakh. Some of these colleges are IIT Delhi; IIT Kharagpur; D.Y. Patil College of Engineering, Pune; Lovely Professional University, Jalandhar and so on.

The fees of around 15% colleges is between Rs 1-2 lakh. Some of these colleges are Jamia Millia Islamia, Delhi; Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute, Mumbai; CIT Coimbatore, Hindustan Institute of Technology & Science, Chennai, etc.

Only around 5% of B.Tech colleges in India are economical with a fee structure of less than Rs 1 lakh. BTech Information Technology: Eligibility Criteria

The BTech IT aspirants need to fulfill certain eligibility criteria provided below to apply for this course: 

  • The candidates need to complete their 10+2 or equivalent exam from a recognized board with a minimum of 50% marks. 
  • They must have studied Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry as their main subjects in 10+2.
  • The students must clear the cut-off of the entrance test. 
  • Candidates seeking admission to BTech. IT courses through Lateral Entry will have to complete their 3 years diploma course from a recognized board.

BTech Information Technology: Admission 2021

The admission process for BTech Information Technology can be done in various ways. They are mentioned below:

Direct Admission

The step-by-step procedure to apply to BTech. IT course direct admission is given below: 

  • Step 1: Students have to fill the application form through an online process according to their eligibility.
  • Step 2: Cutoff list will be given on the official website of the college. 
  • Step 3: Students will be called for a Personal Interview Round where any subject related questions will also be asked. 
  • Step 4: Shortlisted candidates will be offered admission to the course. 

Entrance Exam Based Admission

The step-by-step process for entrance-based admission is as follows.

  • Step 1: The application forms for the entrance tests will have to be filled up online. Only the eligible candidates can fill the application form.
  • Step 2: The candidates will have to sit for the entrance test. Their performance in the entrance test will determine which college they get admitted to. 
  • Step 3: The counseling round takes place after the declaration of the result of the entrance test. Here, the students will be allotted colleges on the basis of their ranks.
  • Step 4: Once the counseling process is over, the students can take admission to the allotted college and they will be ready to begin their classes at that particular institution.
