Bachelor of Technology (BTech) is a four-year professional engineering degree offered to applicants who have completed four years of study in the discipline. Engineering is one of the most popular disciplines in India, with numerous institutes offering it to interested students. JEE Main and JEE Advanced are the most prevalent BTech entrance exams for admissions. There are numerous state and private level entrance examinations that candidates can take in addition to these national level entrance examinations.
Bachelors in Engineering (BE) degree programme receive a comparable orientation to those in a B.Tech programme. In reality, many students worry if the eligibility criteria for institutions, the subjects taught by recruiting organisations, and even the job profiles presented during placements are the same. The main distinction between these two degree programmes is in the course material offered and the program’s orientation. The differences between these two programmes are shown in the table below.
Difference between BE and BTech | |
BE | B.Tech |
BE is more theoretical and knowledge oriented. It is a study based on theory. | B.Tech is skill/data-oriented. The course is more of application engineering. |
The course deals with engineering aspects of Science | The course deals with the technical aspects of Science |
The course is applied to develop innovative equipment and useful technical gadgets in Science and Technology. | The course applies the principles of engineering and technology to modify structures and thereby enhance their quality. |
Eligibility Criteria for BE/BTech
The basic eligibility requirement for admissions to any BTech programme is:
- Candidates must have passed Class 10+2 exam from a recognized board with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as core subjects.
- They must also have secured minimum aggregate marks of 60% in the above subjects combined.
- Most admissions are done based on the student’s performance in the entrance examination.
- Please note that the BTech eligibility criteria would vary from institute to institute.
