Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy (BOT)

The Bachelor of Occupational Therapy (BOT) or Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy (B.Sc.) is a three-year undergraduate programme divided into six semesters. The course is also offered by a number of colleges and institutes across the country, with durations ranging from 3 to 4.5 years.
The course has been designed to focus on preventative and curative approaches, as well as rehabilitation. It teaches pupils how to deal with their bodily, emotional, and mental problems, as well as how to find a universal remedy for the problem or condition. Students study about ways to treat patients by changing the patient’s environment, educating them, and teaching them how to live a normal life in these programmes.Ergo-medicine is another focus of occupational therapy, which promotes alternative medicine practises. Pediatrics, Hand Therapy Adult Rehabilitation, Vision Rehabilitation, Community Consultation, Assisted Living, and more specialisations are available in the BOT course.
BOT prepares students to become skilled professional occupational therapists who may practise alone or under supervision. Observation, clinical reasoning, treatment planning, and implementation are key abilities instilled in students during the BOT course.
B.Sc. in occupational therapy deals with improving the life and condition of handicapped and limited people through different modes of treatments. It can be said that this course is similar to rehabilitation of patient.

Eligibility for B.Sc. in Occupational Therapy

  • Candidates who are interested in pursuing Occupational Therapy course should have passed 10th and 12th or equivalent examination with a minimum of 50% for general and 45% for SC/ST from a recognized board.
  • Students who have passed 10+2 with Science stream, having subjects Physics, Chemistry, Biology at intermediate level are only eligible for the respective course.

B.Sc. in Occupational Therapy: Admission Process

  • Admission to Bachelor of Occupational Therapy is done through an entrance examination. Marks obtained by the student in state level/all India level examination and 10th and 12th, are taken into consideration by the University.
  • Based on these factors, a merit list is made and the seats are allocated to deserving students according to this list.
  • Many Institutes have their own entrance examination and some colleges also offer admissions solely on the basis of marks obtained in 10+2.
