Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS)

BAMS is for Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery, and it is an undergraduate degree programme.The duration of this course is 5.5 years including Internships, that focuses on Ayurveda and is aimed to familiarise students with the integrated notion of Modern Medical Science and Traditional Medicines.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has established a global forum to promote traditional health systems such as Ayurveda. Apart from the MBBS, BAMS is one of the most popular courses in medical science.
Ayurveda is one of the oldest medical systems, dating back to the Vedic period. Its medications are notable for the natural materials they contain and are based on the healing qualities of herbs.
The Ayurveda medicine system, which is considered an alternative way of therapy, not only treats and prevents diseases, but also lessens the frequency with which diseases enter the human body. It makes use of the body’s self-healing system.
People all around the world are now accepting this alternative healing practise. Even the World Health Organisation has provided a worldwide forum for promoting traditional medicine systems such as Ayurveda.

Bachelor of Ayurveda Medical and Surgery Eligibility Criteria

  • Candidates need to have a minimum of 50%-60% in their 10+2 or equivalent examination from a recognized board.
  • The minimum required score in the 10+2 may vary according to the different institutions present in India.
  • Candidates must have Physics, Chemistry and Biology as the main subjects in the 12th board examinations.
  • The upper age limit for the candidates appearing for the NEET exam from the general category is 20 years. While, a relaxation of 4 years is given to the reserved categories.

BAMS Admissions Process

  • NEET is used to determine admission to BAMS (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test). Many medical programmes, including BAMS, now require this test for entry. Following NEET, BAMS aspirants will be eligible to receive a centralised counselling invitation to assist them in selecting a college based on their results. After that, colleges can conduct a personal interview round to further narrow down the candidates.
  • The BAMS course does not offer any specialisations. Postgraduate programmes in Ayurveda Medicine and Surgery require candidates to choose specialisations. M.S. (Master of Surgery) (Ayurveda) and M.D. (Doctor of Medicine) are two of these programmes (Ayurveda).
